Amy Matthews, BA will speak at the special Pre-Conference Program on Monday, May 16 from 2:05 – 5:00 PM. Her address is titled “Meeting the Dementia Challenge in Home Care.”

Alzheimer’s disease affects the person, their family and the healthcare providers who care for and interact with them. Despite the prevalence of dementia-related conditions in the home health population, staff don’t always have the skills needed to understand how these behaviors can complicate care and negatively impact outcomes. This session will offer tools, expert guidance and education in caring for persons with dementia.

Matthews is a champion for people suffering with Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of cognitive impairment. A skilled professional in dementia care for many years, she currently is a Dementia Coach with Engaging Alzheimer’s, LLC, a New York-based firm that trains healthcare professionals, coaches families and advocates for the cognitively impaired.

The NEHCC is the region’s premier event for home care and hospice agencies. It’s hosted by the six New England state home care associations, which collectively represent nearly 400 organizations. This year, the conference returns to the Foxwoods Resort & Casino on May 16 – 18, 2016. Information about the conference is available at www.nehcc.com.
