About Session
Home care aides form the backbone of community-based long-term services and supports, yet agencies across the country face persistent challenges recruiting and retaining this essential workforce. Demand for home-based services continues to rise, yet turnover among home care aides remains one of the most significant challenges facing agencies. This session will present a synthesis of recent studies, national data, and workforce research identifying the persistent factors contributing to high turnover: inadequate compensation structures, limited opportunities for professional advancement, inconsistent or insufficient training, lack of supervisory support, and minimal recognition for the complexity and importance of the work. These issues not only undermine job satisfaction but also hinder agencies’ ability to deliver consistent, high-quality care. The session will bridge research insights with practical application. Attendees will leave with actionable strategies and tools to bolster recruitment, improve retention, and strengthen organizational practices to better support home care aides.
