“My mother died as the COVID-19 pandemic raced across the nation with wildfire ferocity,” shares Lynn Hallarman in her May 2021 JAMA article, “The Great Escape—A Physician Confronts Family Caregiving During the COVID-19 Pandemic.” Lynn’s experience moving her 92-year old mother with dementia from New York City to rural New Hampshire highlighted how essential and undervalued direct care workers are. During this presentation, Hallarman will draw on her own family’s experience, caregiver guilt, and how important it is to develop and support our rapidly growing, essential workforce.
